Enterprise Russell in a not-for-profit Charitable Trust, run by some 40 interesting, helpful volunteers of many nationalities and backgrounds. We are a true example of community pride in action.
We run an internet cafe & office in York Street equipped with 8 fast internet terminals including one with Skype, plus a wi-fi hub. We provide for downloading files & photographs to CD/DVD and memory sticks, plus both black/white and colour copying, faxing and laminating. Ours is a friendly, helpful service that generates significant net income, with all profits being donated to the local community.
We also publish the 16 page, high quality mixed colour and black/white “Russell Lights” newsletter each fortnight on a strictly non-profit making basis both in hard copy and electronic formats. This is widely read by locals, visitors and Russell “swallows” who winter overseas. This provides an excellent low-cost, effective means for local businesses and individuals to advertise virtually anything. This helps to promote local businesses and to keep the wider community informed about what is going on through the diverse articles featured in our columns. The modest revenue from this advertising covers the production costs of this quality publication.
Enterprise Russell has donated about $180,000 to a wide-variety of merit-worthy organizations over the last nine years.. This works out at close to $20,000 per year, with roughly 40% going towards health initiatives, 20% each to community and youth affairs and nearly 10% towards the environment.

There are few places in the world where you get the sense of land emerging from the ocean — where you can trace the contours of the land down below the waterline — where land and ocean are not binary or separate, but continuous. New Zealand’s Paroa Bay is one of these places — a sheltered inlet enveloped by a perfectly irregular peninsula —with the larger subtropical and iconic Bay of Islands stretching out across the horizon.
The Paroa Bay experience is continuous — from the considered architecture of our villas, through the carefully selected ingredients on our menu, to the artisanal quality of our wines, we offer an experience of complete relaxation and luxury in a truly unique and awe-inspiring setting.
Perched above this breath-taking bay is our premier luxury accommodation — Paroa Bay Winery and Estate. Our property features three superb villas, a sprawling boutique vineyard, and our world-class restaurant Sage — ensuring every aspect of a luxurious experience is not only catered to but plentifully provided for.
We do not have to look far for inspiration at Sage — our restaurant at Paroa Bay Winery. Perched high above the idyllic Bay of Islands, it is the Moana (ocean) and Whenua (land) who inform and inspire our menu. From the end of the fishing line cast into the sea to the orchard doors of our suppliers and our very own onsite gardens, our focus is on locally grown and sourced ingredients which combine seamlessly into a uniquely creative brand of New Zealand cuisine.
With a broad-ranging menu that features some of the freshest and most revered offerings from the ocean — all sustainably fished and line-caught — and some of New Zealand’s world-renowned natural produce, our chefs work to strike the perfect balance between creative flair and allowing their ingredients to be savoured as they are. And with all dishes thoughtfully matched from wines directly from our very own cellar door, the culinary experience is full-circle. It is our considered and intuitive approach that pervades the restaurant at Sage, from ingredient sourcing, through the kitchen and front of house.
In a world where sustainability matters, we’re extremely proud to know that almost every ingredient in our kitchen has come from just down the road — we even picked some of them ourselves. It is the connection between our surroundings and our menu that sets Sage apart — and when the surroundings are one of the most beautiful natural environments on the planet you can taste the difference.

In 1887, Albert Ernest Fuller launched the “Undine” sailing vessel in the Bay of Islands to deliver coal supplies to the islands within the Bay.
With the fitting of a motor in the early 1900s, Fuller was able to deliver the coal and essential supplies to communities as far out as Cape Brett.
In 1927 Fuller acquired the “Cream Trip” from Edmund Lane – with the facilities on board to transport cream from the islands, and by the 1960s, the well known ‘Bay Belle’ started this run.
Today, Fullers GreatSights continues this fine tradition and operates the most comprehensive fleet of cruises and tours in Northland, including Dolphin Cruises to the Hole in the Rock, Cape Reinga Day Tours, and Overnight Cruises.
