Russell Nature Walks offers guided walks in a private Kiwi Conservation Area only 2.5km south of Russell. The property is one of the last habitats of two rare birds – kiwi and weka. We offer an ‘Ecology Walk’ and a ‘Night Walk’ guided by Lisette and Eion – friendly, qualified guides who love to share their knowledge and enthusiasm for wildlife and conservation . Join us for a relaxed walk through forest where you can see and hear native birds like weka, kiwi, pipit, fernbird, and tui. Learn about native plants and their uses. Hunt for weta (the gentle giants of the insect world) and view glow-worms on our “Night Walk”. We specialise in small groups (maximum of 8) so there is plenty of opportunity to ask questions. Walks last 2 hours and suit most fitness levels. Every ticket sold contributes directly to the on-site Kiwi Conservation Project.
